About Us
History
Shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Mr. Dye opened a stamp works company making a variety of brass and rubber stamps. These stamps were used for everything from printing plates to branding irons for cattle.
In 1920, John Tully assumed ownership and the company became Tully Stamp Works. Frank B. Gemmell took ownership in 1927 and operated the business under the name Tully's Inc. Toward the end of World War II, Gemmell foresaw changes coming in the printing industry. With offset lithography becoming state of the art technology, he changed the product line to stationery items and printing. Gemmell's business slogan was "Tully's for Service" and supplied his clients with more than just a product.
George Wihr, who operated the Wihr Printing Company, produced most of the printing sold by Tully's. In 1945, after the passing of George Wihr, Gemmell bought out the firm and merged the two companies to create Tully-Wihr.
In 1950, the company was acquired by Arthur Bowe, who kept the name, but changed the direction of the company. Stationery took a back seat and emphasis was given to business forms and printing. During the early seventies, ownership changed once more, when several salesmen, Don Knoll, Charlie Miller and Gene Gallagher took ownership. Knowing the importance of providing unsurpassed service and quality products, they developed our Comprehensive Forms Management Service.
